About Darrell

Delegate Darrell C. Odom Sr. is the Maryland House of Delegates member for District 27A, appointed by Governor Wes Moore on January 12, 2026. He is a 31-year veteran of the United States Army and Coast Guard, retiring as a Master Chief Maritime Enforcement Specialist — the highest enlisted rank in the Coast Guard. He then spent 24 years in Prince George's County Fire/EMS, eventually serving as Acting Fire Chief. He designed and implemented the county's Paramedic Ambulance Program, which is still running today.

When the District 27A seat became vacant in late 2025, the Prince George's County Democratic Central Committee voted 22 to 2 to forward Delegate Odom's name to the Governor. Governor Moore appointed him on January 12, 2026, and he was sworn in the following day. He had served on the Central Committee since 2019, was re-elected unopposed in 2022, and had a long record of civic work in the district.

Delegate Odom serves on the Environment and Transportation Committee in the Maryland House of Delegates. This is the committee with direct jurisdiction over Route 301, Route 5, the Maryland 210 corridor, environmental policy, and transportation funding — the issues most directly affecting District 27A's daily life.

In his first 90 days, Delegate Odom introduced five bills and co-sponsored one that became law:

HB 1532 — Utility RELIEF Act (ENACTED): Co-sponsored. Passed 107–25 in the House and 35–11 in the Senate. Saves Maryland families at least $150/year on utility bills. Signed by Governor Moore.

HB 1567 — Pass Pedestrians Safely Act: Passed the full House of Delegates. Extends the three-foot passing rule to pedestrians, e-bike riders, and scooter riders. Reintroducing in 2027.

HB 1477, 1522, 1491, 1607: Veterans mental health, rental car accountability, school safety pathways, and community solar siting. All reintroducing in 2027.

The District

District 27A spans two counties — southern Prince George's County and northern Charles County. On the Prince George's County side, it includes communities in Brandywine, parts of Clinton, Baden, and the Cheltenham/Aquasco area. On the Charles County side, it includes parts of Waldorf, White Plains, the Indian Head corridor, and Bryans Road.

Important Zip codes do not align precisely with district boundaries. Parts of Waldorf (20601–20604) and Clinton (20735) fall outside District 27A. The only reliable way to confirm your address is in the district is to use the Maryland General Assembly's district finder tool.

Check your address at the MGA district finder →

The fastest and most reliable way is the Maryland General Assembly's official district finder. Enter your home address and it will show every elected official who represents you — delegate, senator, county council, and congressional representatives.

Find my legislators (MGA) →

You can also check through the Maryland voter registration lookup, which will show your legislative district.

Verify your address

Always verify your street address with the official state tools. District boundaries and ZIP codes do not always match.

District boundaries are drawn by the Maryland General Assembly following each decennial census to ensure roughly equal population representation. District 27A connects communities along the US-301 and Route 5 corridor that share commuting patterns, schools, and infrastructure challenges. The 2022 redistricting placed these communities together in one district. District 27A is part of the larger Legislative District 27, which also includes 27B and 27C covering parts of Prince George's and Calvert Counties.

District 27A residents are represented by:

State Delegate: Darrell C. Odom Sr. (District 27A)

State Senator: Kevin M. Harris (District 27)

You also have county-level representatives (County Executive, County Council) and federal representatives (U.S. House and Senate). Use the MGA district finder to see all of them by address.
